This client has almost daily updates to their website content; everything from class schedule, to events, workshops and teachers all need to be added, edited, or deleted quite often. The site was designed so that the client or staff simply adds a Post for new content, and indicates which Category it belongs to (Workshop, Event, Teacher, Blog, etc.). The Post will then display on the proper Page, based on the Category indicated. This is a very powerful tool, designed to be very easy to use. I am training the client on how to create Posts, upload images and content, and how to edit existing Posts. I have also added a section in the Dashboard that contains helpful instructional videos, so my client can refer to them when working on the site. The site contains the very cool “Tippy” plug-in, which displays a fly-out description panel (see the Class Schedule page and hover over a Class listing). There is a Glossary sidebar (see Class Quotes and Yoga Terms page, right sidebar) which I think is a nice feature; Facebook is integrated, as is the email newsletter sign-up form. I really enjoyed creating this site for Bodyworks Yoga and I know they will use it as a marketing tool to bring in more yoga students to the studio, cause THAT’S what it’s all about!! (and you thought the Hokey Pokey was what it’s all about, didn’t you?).

Although we have a Junior Executive Assistant (code-named named “Gigi”) keeping things in order and making sure all is running smoothly, it falls into the hands of the Chief Executive Officer to insure all systems are efficiently and effectively operating. Someone’s gotta do it, and Girl Friday’s just the one.
You know how much Girl Friday loves WordPress! Geez I’ve been crowin’ about it for two years straight! Now it seems that lots of businesses big and small are finally catching on that WordPress is a really nifty platform that turns your static HTML site into a dynamic-content-managing-video-blogging-social-media-connecting-e-commerceThe conducting of business communication and transactions over networks and through computers. OK. I know. I exaggerate. Girl Friday does get a little excited about WordPress. Sorry. Ahem. Here are just a few things WordPress can do:

Now, just who are we talking about here? Well, let’s start with the WordPress developers themselves. These fall into two main camps: WordPress.org, where you can go and download WP for free and create your website/URL that you host yourself, and WordPress.com, where they will host a WordPress site for you (if you do not have your own URL).

They’re not just friendly, they’re like, practically married to each other!

Here’s how your BFF Girl Friday sees it: your WordPress site is the center of your marketing efforts…it’s the center of the daisy, the jelly in the donut, the Malcom in the Middle…you get the picture. And Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and even (outbound) Email Campaigns, which can now be integrated with your social media tools, are the pathways that lead new visitors and clients to that website.

WHAT’S a plug-in, you ask? Well, each plug-in is a unique little set of instructions that add beauty and fun and functionality and music and video and art galleries and OH pretty much whatever you can imagine to your WordPress site. Plug-ins do gorgeous things, as I just mentioned, and they also do very important, code-based maintenance, SEO, updating and blahblahblah BOR-ing stuff, too (important and necessary functions that make WordPress SO freakin’ cool!)
